Mountain Leader Training Course

Recognised by Mountain Leader Training (England) as a summer training course for the Mountain Leader qualification, this course is designed to teach the basic skills required by the aspiring mountain leader. A good knowledge of mountaineering is needed, together with a commitment to learning further and using the knowledge well.

This training course follows the Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE) syllabus and is open to leaders who are over 18 years old. The course consists of two three - day weekends, both of which you must attend to complete the course. The costs do not cover travel to and from the venues

Weekend 1        This weekend will be spent in Newbridge on Wye in Mid-Wales using hut accommodation, Techniques and practical exercises in accurate navigation, rescue, hazards under differing conditions are the main topics covered. Accommodation is for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nights the course commences at 9am Saturday and finishes at 4pm Monday, most main meals are provided

Weekend 2     The weekend will be spent in Snowdonia North Wales. Please note that this session commences at 9am on Friday morning and finishes at 4pm on Sunday.  Accommodation will be included for Thursday night , then you will be self catering under canvas , training in leadership, navigation, expedition work and mountaineering skills will be covered by the instructors

It is recommended that you purchase the book entitled "Hillwalking" (ISBN 0-9541511-0-0) which is the official hand book for the ML scheme. It is also a pre-requisite that you have completed 20 "Quality Mountain Days" before attending the course, as required (and defined) by the MLTE prospectus
