ESMAT Winter Weekend 4th - 6th February 2011

The ESMAT Winter weekend cannot be bettered. We stay in indoor accommodation near Ambleside, with superb views right from the doorstep. Breakfast and evening meals are provided, all you will need to supply are your packed lunches see our lunchbox for ideas and, with duvets and sheet liners provided, not even a sleeping bag is required. See our kit list for an idea of what you will need to bring on the weekend.

Who is the weekend for?

Any Member of the Scouts Association and GirlGuiding UK over the age of 14 who must have attended at an ESMAT Easter event or those who have winter walking experience, through to the more experienced people who have used ice axes and crampons. ALL equipment will be supplied but if you have any ice axes and crampons etc, please bring them.

We run 2 different courses on this weekend…

   WINTER EXPERIENCE:

For people who have not walked in the mountains in winter before and like the idea of snow walking, learning to use ice axes and crampons, and enjoying the Lake District in all it's splendour. You can also be assessed for 'Summer' Form M.

  SNOW AND ICE TECHNIQUES:

here we concentrate on the technical side of winter mountaineering using rope work and alpine techniques to include crevasse rescue (simulated of course - this is the English Lakes!), climbing and belaying, and mixed ground movement.

The choice is yours. Pick whichever type of weekend suits you best and, if you have any special requirements, your ESMAT Instructor will try to include them. Please book as early as possible, Final Date for applications is 10th Jan 2011, we cannot accept any forms without payment, all forms must be signed by  either your DC or DESC
